8:14 p.m. | Updated MySpace, the long-suffering Web site that the News Corporation bought six years ago for $580 million, was sold Wednesday to the advertising network Specific Media for roughly $35 million.
What caused the downfall of this formally popular social networking site? The statistics show that MySpace used to be the top social media site lost with 20 million unique visitors each month in the United States. This figure even climbed to 70 million but lost to Facebook two years ago.
What happened next? Well, nobody want’s to advertise on a site that’s loosing it’s popularity so advertisers and users in general left. The site then become some what of a liability to the owners who started looking for ways to ‘get rid of it’ .
Still, if the site really was good, users really wouldn’t mind the number of advertisers that the site has. So what do users have to say about why they gave up on MySpace?
Many are blaming the interface MySpace had. If you compare it to Facebook, you’ll clearly see the difference. MySpace is or should we say ‘was’ just too cluttered. True, you could connect with your favorite artists and share songs and all but the interface was just too complicated. It took quite too much time trying to figure out things. Facebook is definitely cleaner and easier to much more user friendly.
Another reason many give is privacy. Viruses were common on MySpace that people just got tired of their accounts and shifted to Facebook.
Those are a few things the new owners should keep in mind if they plan to get their money’s worth. Design, interface and three privacy badly need to change.

Everyone knows just how useful Social media has proven to be in the business field. Then is the reason why practically everyone has an online profile somewhere-to connect with family and friends. It seems social networking is continuing to find more and more ways to be of use to people. Here is yet another triumph for social media.
The Washington Post reports that the FBI decided on its new strategy of blasting photos of Bulger and Catherine Elizabeth Greig on television screens and the social networking site Twitter on Tuesday. In a few short hours, the agency’s Los Angeles office received a call from someone living in the apartment complex where Bulger and Greig were living.
Whitey Bulger has been on the FBI’s “MOST WANTED” list from 1995- an astonishing 16 years! His crimes include 19 Killings in the Boston area and Drug-trafficking as well.
According to the report, the main reason for his not being able to be captured all these years is his ‘connections’ with some FBI agents. He was an informant of one of the ‘top’ agents and got protection in return.
This is probably where Social media will prove to shine. Using these networks to post photos of ‘wanted’ people, will allow justice to be served. No agency has control over these social sites. No government personal can try and ‘hide’ information on these sites and nobody can stop the news from spreading there.
Though many find the freedom of speech on these sites in a way ‘wrong’ considering the harm that may be done with verbal harassment on a global scale, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies surely will be glad to have Social networks around. Things that people may be hesitant to do with other mediums can be done online without worrying about privacy.
Social networking also makes reporting crimes very easy. A simple tweet or message sent to the authorities is not only easy to do but may be all they need to locate some criminal. Social media is the ‘Hottest’ and maybe even the most valuable ‘agent’ in town.

A brand’s social media is often left hanging lifelessly in cyberspace. All of those Twitter tweets, Facebook status updates, YouTube videos, press releases, etc. are disconnected and unorganized, not to mention hard to find for future use.
A new platform called Postano is to be released on Tuesday. The platform is aimed in consolidating social media and news activity seamlessly on their websites on a customizable “Social Hub” page. This basically means that you will have less trouble managing your media sites.
Postano is able to gather social activity on the most popular social media sites that brands use such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Google News and the like. All the data is then presented in a magazine-like layout. Another great thing about it is the infinite scrolling which allows you to go as far back as you want to check your history.
Another thing brands will love about this new platform is that you will be able to customize your page to fit your brand. In fact, you can even create your very own design with your brand’s logo on it.
Check the video below to see how Postano works.

Reaching out once again to the young technically savvy voters who helped him get elected, President Obama has officially moved his Facebook page and his Twitter account, @BarackObama, into campaign mode.
These two social networking sites will be featured in the 2012 campaign logo. The president plans to fully use social media in his political campaign. He currently has 8.6 million followers on Twitter, and more than 21.6 million Facebook fans. Will using these sites be a good idea?
There is no doubt that social media can get you fans and spread news in places you can’t go. The ‘down side’ though is you really can’t control people’s comments and posts. The president or should we say his ‘moderators’ will be in for some big ‘reputation management’. Getting yourself connected in these sites as a prominent person will have effects.
The good thing that may make a huge difference is the president’s ‘promise’ to personally post some tweets and updates himself which are to be signed BO. Everyone loves that personal touch. Weather this use of social media in politics will be successful is still to be seen. So far, politicians who have got involved in these sites have had very big problems.
