It’s a great place to meet friends, find old colleagues and develop new friendships. No matter how ‘free’ some people feel on these sites, the truth is, people you meet on them should be treated like they would if you met them in person.

Keeping good online etiquette when on these sites is extremely important. Here are some things to remember.

Be clear and honest to avoid misinterpretation. The thing with social media is that it’s so easy to be understood. This isn’t something you would want to happen since it can cause a lot of loss especially if you are a business using online marketing. Make sure everything you say on these sites is clear and true.

Say please and Thank you. Whenever somebody shares something that is in your best interests, remember to thank them. People have to feel appreciated and a simple ‘thank you’ may be all they need. In addition, it shows that you notice and aren’t only after what you can get from them.

Keep your fingers in check. Always think before you comment or say anything on these sites. It usually takes a single careless comment to ruin relationships for good. Try and avoid using these sites as your personal outlet and keep things professional.

Expand your network. Do what you can to expand your circle of friends. This will have a huge impact on your ratings and reputation.

Online social marketing is a very effective marketing method to employ but can also be used against you if you aren’t careful. In order to keep your online reputation up, you must keep good manners and maintain proper etiquette online.

Social media has indeed become a very powerful tool being used by businesses both big and small businesses. Traditional marketing alone has become seldomly used by companies these days. Still, there are many ways in which traditional methods still have an edge. One of these is when it comes to regulation. Newspapers, TV and other sources of media can be controlled to some degree. Even when customers don’t like what is being advertised, their opinions can’t really have such huge effects.

When it comes to social media, there is no controlling what and how news is spread. This can be a good thing if it is in favor of your business. The problem arises when comments are negative. One unhappy client simply needs to post something negative on their site and in minutes, your ‘bad’ reputation is is spread. Shrugging off such a spread as ‘temporary’ can be dangerous. Companies must act so that they can control how this news is spread.

One very important thing to consider is how you talk to your customers on these social media sites. Talking ‘at’ them gives a selfish impression that won’t be good at all. Your customers will think of you as simply a company trying to get something from them. A better way to interact is to talk ‘with’ them instead. Try and direct these converstations to involve youself but also be a good listener.

The way news spreads on social media isn’t always a bad thing. In fact, many defects have been identified because of customers’ complaints on these sites. The key here is to build your integrity online and get your customers to trust you.

Marketers must find creative ways of directing these conversations, involving themselves, and, most importantly, listening to what’s being said. Using this information, adjustments can be made to more effectively serve buyers’ needs.

A social media monitoring tool allows a brand to control multiple social media profiles from a single source. Through utilizing such software, a brand can identify key influences that interact with the brand on a regular basis, and can look to accommodate them into future social strategies. Even if a brand isn’t looking to incorporate such users in future strategies, they could discuss with them what they would like to see in future campaigns, as these users are likely to be well-versed in what may appear most appealing to a brand’s follower.

It really would be of no use for you to have all those social media sites but not know how so use them. If you are a brand, you can use social media to the full by monitoring your fans well. There is a lot of information that you can get from these fans. In a way, getting viewpoints from your fans can be a steering wheel driving you in the right direction. This especially applies to brands who really need to carefully examine their objectives before implementing any long or short term goals.

How can social media monitoring help in this regard then? Well, with a tool like this, you’ll be able to know how your fans are reacting to whatever strategies you are implementing at the moment. In turn, you will be able to make adjustments according to what works for you. Social media monitoring tools are able to flag comments and posts that may have specific words or phrases attached to them. This way, you’ll never have to blindly do things that you may regret in the future. This is something that you don’t get with the usual marketing strategies that you may be doing.

If there’s one thing you must love about social media marketing. You always have the chance to put light on your pathway and change directions whenever necessary.

With the increased focus on social media marketing, you may ask if you still should put some effort into traditional marketing methods. How much focus should you put into each of these marketing strategies for you to have the best results?

It really depends. On what exactly? On your objectives, on your kind of business and on how much you can afford. If your business is more of a retail one for example, advertising your products online would be a great marketing tool. On the other hand, imagine you have some service you provide for a particular area, broadcasting that to the whole world really won’t be practical.

Is there place for traditional marketing methods? There definitely is. Before you really decide where to direct your marketing budget, you must be very familiar with your objective. Here are some don’ts when it comes to marketing your business:

Don’t do ‘send to many’ vibes. Never use social media as you would your phone and text a single message to a whole group of friends. You won’t get much response from this. Always make sure it’s personalized.

Don’t direct your attention to so many sites and leave it at that. You should sign up on sites that you know will be good for your business. Different social media sites are good for particular kinds of businesses.

Don’t be rigid. You have to be extra flexible when it comes to the methods you choose for your marketing. Going with change is the only way to be successful. Always be willing to learn.

When you see chance to, also make room for traditional marketing which will also be what you need to combine all your marketing efforts. Traditional and social marketing should go hand in hand if you are to have success.

Making use of social media in improving the scope of your business has proven to be extremely effective. The only thing that you’ll have a problem with is creating the best and most effective process for your social media. This will take quite a lot of time and money so it’s best that you make the best use of it. Here are a couple of useful tips that will help you.

Make the most of what you have. This involves making sure that your team does what is expected of them. A lot of money can be saved if you know how to utilize your resources instead of getting more and more workers.

Make your plan nimble.

Walter says, “The biggest issue is the amount of time it takes to make a decision internally. It is a time of ‘now marketing,’ or what I call ‘agile marketing’ — we cannot afford to spend too much time making decisions or creating elaborate processes of approval. We need to act quickly and nimbly; otherwise, the opportunity is gone forever. This is the biggest hindrance to digital creativity.”

“Most companies like an effective triage system to pass information around the company directing who will respond and how,” says Owyang. “As a result, more than one business group may respond to customers — reducing efficiency and of course, potentially confusing customers.”

  3. Minimize tools and consultants. When it comes to tools, the fact is that they usually perform nearly the same function. If you use all of them, you may end up wasting time with similar tools.Try and only use one of each kind and use it to the full.

As for consultants, these only cost money so don’t use them if you really don’t have to. The information they provide can usually be found online so it may be better that you simply do some research.

4. Be a good learner. There are a lot of places that you can learn new stuff about social media. Join pages, forums and be on the look out for sites that offer valuable info on this.

These are just a few ways that you can make the most of your social media and avoid spending too much time and money on your marketing.

Let’s face it-KEEPING customers loyal to you is much harder than FINDING them. You may simply have been the people they came in contact with when they needed your services but it doesn’t really mean that they will close their doors on using your competitors as well. How can you get your customers to be loyal to you and only you?

Social media can be a huge help in this area. You can use your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and all to make sure that your customers stick to you. Here’s why this will work.

If you have a brand on these sites and connect with your customers, they will likely share this with friends. In short, simply showing some appreciation and getting them to be connected will be all you need to get even more customers! It’ll be as good as ‘using’ them to market for you.

People will more likely choose their word over yours. Being a company, you will only sound like you are after more customers but from somebody who has tried your services, they are more likely to believe.

There you have it. With social media around, keeping your customers loyal to you doesn’t have to be difficult. Simply create a page, get connected to keep them interested and even get them to share you with friends.

It’s not only businesses that are finding it practical to promote their services on social media sites. A scary development has been reported on these sites-gangs are also using them to promote their ideas. Why should this be of concern?

Kids are online a lot of the time-we all know that. If they are leading ‘clean’ lives free from any ‘bad influence’ they may find themselves in the wrong crowd online. Parents therefore are advised to keep an eye on their children’s online lives.

Just what are these gangsters doing online? For one, they are posting videos on their activities such as beatings. They are using these social media sites to gain more members.

How can you know if your child has been influenced? One sign according to the experts is if your child starts wearing the same color for a long time. Gangs usually have color symbols so if your kid suddenly becomes a red or black fan-there might be something wrong.

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA) – - Montgomery County Police say more local gangs are using social media to communicate with others, even coordinating criminal activity.

Officer Amy Daum said, “We used to see these kids flashing colors and gang signs in their neighborhood now we’re seeing them do the same thing on social media.”

With the popularity of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media sites, many companies are finding it beneficial to create a profile on these sites. Marketing online with the help of social media has lead many to increase their revenue a lot. Would it be wise though to focus all efforts on these sites and forget about your website?

That would be a huge mistake! The fact is Websites and social media should work hand in hand to promote your business properly. If you simply use social media, there is very little that you will be able to accomplish.

Social media sites have a limit when it comes to the number of characters you can post. This means you can’t say much at once. Only on a website can you do this. You can give more information about your business if you have a website.

The key is balance. Keep your website. In fact, upgrade it and do whatever you can to get its ranks up. Then use Social media to direct traffic to your site. This will be a far better strategy.

What companies should all keep in mind is that social media cannot stand alone. For you to be effective, you have to use other online marketing techniques and bring them together on your social media sites.

In other words, social media needs to support a company’s Web site, and a Web site needs to support a company’s social media efforts. They complement and work for each other as opposed to competing. It’s not an either/or proposition.

ATHLETES competing at the London Olympics next year will be encouraged to use social media and blogging sites on the internet but only within strict limits imposed by the International Olympic Committee.

What’s the reason behind this policy? Basically, the Committee is trying to prevent careless comments about their partners who fund the games. Being part of the competition, they too should feel some responsibility in protecting the people that made the games possible.

What are some things that athletes are to avoid? Quite a few:

No comments about competitors, other participants performance or accredited persons during the games.

No videos or audios that have been recorded during the games though personal photos are allowed.

No use of the Olympic symbol of rings in any way

Do they have a right to set such guidelines? Or are they encroaching on athletes personal lives? Before entering the competition, all participants agree to follow any guidelines set before them. If the committee choose to include boundaries when it comes to social media, they have the right to. Athletes are obliged to comply.

Just how serious are they about following these social networking policies? Well, if you are guilty of breaking these rules, you can end up getting thrown out of the games! Yes, they really do mean business.

Read more here.
